Other Burning

Outdoor Burning Categories

There are several allowable outdoor burning categories other than residential burning.  These activities are  permitted through the Air District as well as fire agencies such as the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and city fire departments.

Agricultural Burning
Land Development Burning
Ditch, Levee, Road, Reservoir Maintenance Burning
Range Management Burning
Forest Management Burning
Wildland Vegetation Management Burning
Fire Hazard Reduction and Oversized Residential Burning

PERMITS ARE REQUIRED

Permits for these categories of burning are required from both the Air District and the responsible fire agency.

CALL 223-6246 BEFORE LIGHTING YOUR FIRE

Burning is only allowed on permissive burn days.  Always call 223-6246 prior to lighting your fire.

BURNING REQUIREMENTS

Only vegetation that originated on the property can be burned in these fires.

The material should be reasonably free of dirt and moisture.

Only approved ignition devices can be used to light the fire.  Those devices include LPG, butane, propane or diesel oil burners, or flares.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Depending upon the size of the project, the location of the project, and the amount of smoke that will be produced, the permittee may be required to file a smoke management plan with the Air District.

Permittees of forest management and wildland vegetation management projects typically are required to file the smoke management plan.
