How We Regulate

Sources of Air Pollution

Industrial and commercial businesses are often subject to air pollution control regulations because they emit air pollutants.  

Examples of business regulated include gasoline stations, drycleaners, concrete batch plants, autobody shops, mineral and rock processing facilities, industrial boilers, internal combustion engines and wood products industries.

How does the Air District regulate businesses?

Air District permits place conditions on business operations
Businesses install air pollution control equipment
Compliance inspections by Air District staff
Submission of yearly written reports of business activities to the Air District
Reporting by businesses of breakdowns or malfunctions and Air District inspections confirming the reports
Complaint inspections by Air District staff
Testing of air pollutants being emitted from businesses
